• CCISD's 2013 Summer School starts June 17 at 7:30a at Clear Brook HS. Registration is at Clear Brook HS on June 15 from 9a-3p. The only payment they accept: Cashier's Check, Money Order, Credit Card (MC, Visa, Discover)

• Graduation 2013 News:   Graduation is Thursday, June 6, 2013 at 7:30 pm at the CCISD Veteran's Memorial Stadium. Any decision to move the ceremony indoors due to impending inclement weather will occur between noon and 2:00 pm on June 6th.
• Graduation Practice is mandatory for all seniors participating in the graduation ceremony. Seniors will have a special BBQ at 11:30 in the MB Commons before practice. Practice will be Wednesday, June 5th at 1:00 pm in the CLHS Krueger Field House. Students will receive important last minute information about the ceremony at the practice. Times for students to report to campus will be different under the rain plan.  Should details change, please refer to the information posted on the district website at www.ccisd.net . Rain tickets will be distributed to seniors after graduation practice on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 from 2:00 pm - 3:00pm in the CLHS Krueger Field House. Students will be required to sign for their tickets.

• Attendance notification reminder of procedures for students - if a student needs to leave school during the day, it is important for you, as the parent, to write and sign a note stating such, and give it to your student so s/he may bring it to the attendance office for them to mark the absence. It is easier to account for the excused absence the day of rather than afterwards. We thank you for your cooperation.

• Rock Camp Live Event - Calling all you rock musicians out there! This summer, Clear Creek ISD will be cosponsoring Rock Camp Live, a 2 week summer camp. Whether you play guitar, drums, keyboards or sing, this will be an awesome opportunity for you to meet other musicians, form bands, rehearse with support from rock professionals and then perform a live concert. Check out the fliers in the MB Office with more information.

• From Ms. Dixon's Email:
• I want to inform you of the most recent activity from Austin regarding graduation requirements, assessment and accountability measures. Please note: there are many questions that we, as a campus and a District have and we don't have all the answers at this point. But, I think it's best to be aware of the points in the legislation that will affect all of us. I ask that you refrain from asking your questions at this time, but save them as they arise and I will have a better sense of how some of these points will be planned as we approach the next school year. It will be a busy summer!
• Lawmakers passed several key bills in the waning hours of the first session of the 83rd Texas Legislature including Senate Bill 1 and House Bill 5. The bills head to the governor as lawmakers remain in Austin for a specially called session to address redistricting. The governor has 20 days to sign or veto bills on his desk. SB 1, the state's budget bill, includes $3.6 billion more for public education over the last biennium, including $330 million for a new district contribution to TRS and $1.75 billion to provide the August payment of this year that was previously delayed until September.  Graduation requirements, assessments and accountability were overhauled with the passage of HB5 over the weekend with the following provisions. 
• Replaces the current minimum, recommend and distinguished graduation plans with a foundation plan of 22 credits which includes: 4 ELA (English I, II and III prescribed), 3 Math (Algebra I and Geometry prescribed), 3 Science (Biology prescribed, IPC may satisfy science credit), 3 Social Studies (U.S. History, .5 Government, .5 Economics, World Geography or World History), 2 Foreign Language or Computer Programming, 1 Fine Art, 1 PE and 5 electives.  
• Allows students to earn an endorsement in one of five areas: STEM, Business and Industry, Public Services, Arts and Humanities and Multidisciplinary Studies.  Each endorsement requires students to earn a total of 26 credits which includes an additional flexible math credit, flexible science credit and two additional electives.
• Allows districts to partner with community colleges and industry to develop rigorous courses that address workforce needs, provide technical training and count towards graduation. 
• Maintains a distinguished level of performance for students.  To earn the distinguished level, students must complete the requirements of the foundation program, an endorsement and earn an Algebra II credit.  Allows students completing the distinguished level to be eligible for college admission under the Top 10% automatic admissions provision. (Similar to current law)
• Allows all high school graduates to be eligible to apply for admission to Texas public four-year universities.
• Allows all high school graduates to be eligible to receive a TEXAS Grant.
• Allows current ninth and tenth grade students the benefits of the new structure. We are not sure of how this will play out, so we will watch and wait.
• Requires the SBOE to approve at least six advanced courses from CTE or Technology Applications, including courses in personal financial literacy and statistics that satisfy math credit. 

Assessment

• Reduces the number of required end-of-course assessments from 15 to five including ELA I, ELA II, Algebra I, Biology and US History.  English Language Arts tests are combined into one assessment instead of separate reading and writing tests.
• Eliminates the requirement that the end-of-course assessments determine fifteen percent of a student's course grade and establishes clear graduation requirements for students and parents by eliminating the cumulative score requirement.
• Prohibits schools from administering more than two benchmark tests per student per subject, not to include college readiness exams such as the SAT or ACT.
• Provides for transparency by requiring the STAAR exams to be released to the public.
• Allows satisfactory performance on Advanced Placement exams, SAT exams and the ACT to satisfy graduation requirements.
• Allows districts at their discretion to administer English III and Algebra II assessments for diagnostic purposes only.
• Allows current ninth and tenth grade students the benefits of the new assessment program. 

Accountability

• Prohibits schools from pulling students out of class for more than 10 percent of class time for test preparation or remediation without parental consent.
• Requires schools to be evaluated on more measures than state standardized assessment by requiring at least three additional indicators of academic performance including but not limited to percentage of students graduating with endorsements or distinguished level of performance, number of students earning college credit and number of students earning workforce certificates.
• Establishes a three category rating system that evaluates schools on academic performance, financial performance and community and student engagement.
• Directs the agency and districts to release all three ratings at the same time to provide a clearer understanding of overall school performance.
• Allows local communities to engage in the accountability process by requiring districts to set goals and evaluate performance locally in addition to state ratings.
• --
• From the Front Office: Restaurant food orders delivered by the restaurant, flowers, stuffed animals, balloons, cakes, cupcakes, cookies, etc., are not accepted for students and will not be held anywhere for pick up.

• Our counselors love what they do and they are grateful to our wonderful families and students they serve every day. • Senior Awards and DAP Recognition Night - join me in recognizing our superb counseling and administrative staff for the fantastic program they put together this year for our DAP and Senior Awards Night. 189 seniors were on the list to be honored. Our thanks go to Lead Counselor, Vicki Pittman and Career Specialist, Darlene Snell, for their leadership and management of the program. In addition, let us honor counselors Karen Hu, Paula Evard, Gary Tittle, Denisa Valenzuela, Amanda Embrey and Randa Tepfer for their guidance and presentation. For our administrative support, we are indebted to our TIS Holly Berndt and our counseling support staff Val Steelman and Cari Robinette. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

   

  Bay Area Citizen Future Leader Award - Clear Lake High School is proud to name Mackenzie Swan as theBay Area Citizen Future Leader. We have chosen Mackenzie because she is very involved not only academically, but she is a great example of a future leader who deeply understands the importance of community involvement.

   

  Spring Football Game 2013 was a hit! Let us recognize and thank all our football coaching staff and athletic trainers for the Spring Football game on Saturday, May 25th. By all accounts, our 2013 football players looked great and are gearing up for a fantastic fall season. Way to go!!

   

  Asia Night at Lake was a cultural experience that was enjoyed by all! Many thanks to advisor Janet Voor for her guidance and management of the students in our very enthusiastic Asian Club! We are proud of you all.

   

  Special Olympics recognition at Lake! Clear Lake athlete Miles Lewis participated in the State Summer Games in Arlington this past weekend: Miles participated in Basketball and received 4th place with his team. Congratulations, Miles! We are proud of you.

  
  Flip Flops in West, TX was a huge hit! Let us recognize Mrs. Amy McDonald, our sophomore principal, and her secretary, Mrs. Sotsuda and thank them for driving to the town of West, TX to deliver hundreds of flip-flops this to the students at West HS. They took a special homemade card that our students signed wishing everyone well and hope for their future as they recover from the devastating explosion at the fertilizer plant.

  
  Drawing! Painting! Sculpting! Clear Lake Art Club's Spring Art Show was a huge success in its inaugural year. There were many terrific items on display that showcased our incredibly talented young artists at Lake. Let us recognize our art teachers

   

  Candice Matthies, Michele Martin-McDulin and Peter Storms for teaching our students and encouraging them to be creative and innovative as they express their thoughts and ideas through art.
  

   

  The Fine Arts Concerts were a smashing success this spring! Let us recognize and thank our directors who orchestrated picture perfect concerts with a panoply of great music and songs to entertain packed houses for each concert. For

  Teacher Innovative Grant Winners at Lake - Let us give a shout out to Shelly McCormick, our awesome Latin teacher and Lillian Wilson, our awesome Project Lead the Way teacher for receiving teacher innovative grants for their programs. Mrs. McCormick received two grants totaling $2,500 to purchase software for Latin vocabulary mastery and a mobile language lab the department can use. Mrs. Wilson received one grant for $2,500 to help her advanced engineering students add to and complete a water filtration mechanism they begun last year. Congratulations, Lillian and Shelly!

   

  CLHS Choir Members Advance! In February, 12 Clear Lake Choir students advanced to the All-State level of UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest.  Memorial Day weekend, 11 of those students competed at the University of Texas in Austin.  Of the 11 soloists, more than half received gold medals, and the rest all received silver!

  Lake's gold medalists are: Emily Beisert, Sabrina Tran, Vishmi Abeygunarathna, Jacky Ovalle, Paul Arceneaux, and Caroline Busselberg. Our silver medalists include: Christina Soisson, Bethany Warner, Divya Koyyalagunta, Jolanta Nowobilski, and Hannah Seavey.

  
  A giant round of congratulations to these talented singers for representing Lake and Clear Lake Choir so very well at State! And, a thank you to Mr. Coffey and Miss Neva for their guidance, direction and leadership.
